a zelda retrospective

It goes without saying that I’m a huge Legend of Zelda fan (but I’ll remind you anyway). As such, I am abjectly thrilled to be going home for Thanksgiving this week, as my younger brother managed to score not only the elusive Wii console, but also Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. He clearly carries the same DNA from which my discerning videogame palate results.
I said last week that I think Nintendo’s Wii is the most exciting digital offering of the last six years or so, and I stand by that claim. Quite frankly, I haven’t looked forward to playing a console with this kind of giddy anticipation since the Super Nintendo. I very highly doubt that I’ll even make eye contact with my family members this coming weekend. The ultimate goal is, in fact, to beat Zelda as quickly as possible, then return to Boston and purchase my own copy for a closer inspection. It’s not selfish, it’s awesome.
GameTrailers.com has a six part retrospective on the entire Legend of Zelda series up right now (scroll to the “Features” section of the page or follow these links: 1 2 3 4 5 6). The narration gives off the same vibe of scripted enthusiasm that the old Nintendo Power magazine did, but the pieces are quite well produced, providing a thorough overview of every Zelda game and a daring attempt to place them all in a cohesive chronology at the end. If you’re unfamiliar with the series it’s a great way to learn about it, and even if you think you know everything about Link and Ganon, the clips can still be revealing.
