Like the header says, this is the website of Jonathan Dobres. He enjoys many different activities, including occasionally writing in the third person. When reading this site there are two important things to keep in mind. First, this site is a casual endeavor, representing Jonathan Dobres’s hobbies, interests, and whatever other quotidian experiences he feels inclined to share. In other words, this website does not represent The Complete Jonathan Dobres, and should not be taken as such.
The second important thing to keep in mind is the reason that Jonathan Dobres created this site, as well as the reason he so boldly uses his full name on it. He has been creating and updating websites of one variety or another since the mid-90s. Like many on the internet, he always used a pseudonym. He stopped in 2003, and began using his real name. Why? Jonathan had uploaded one of his college papers, which featured an analysis of a Neo-nazi website, onto his personal site. The aforementioned Nazis found the paper and proceeded to edit and quote from it extensively. Since the Word document included Jonathan’s full name, the Nazis falsely implied that Jonathan Dobres supports their views. Google, which is an unfeeling, blind machine, incorrectly picked up the association.
Jonathan Dobres tried in vain to have the misappropriated materials removed from the offending website, but the site in question was run by a mental patient with a law degree who refused to acquiesce. So Jonathan Dobres began using his real name all around the internet, hoping to get it associated with all the things that he loves, the things that truly represent who he is. Or at the very least, things that do not make him look like a Nazi.
The offending link still remains in Google, and is an unending source of embarrassment and shame for Jonathan. Although writing under a pseudonym would undoubtedly grant Jonathan Dobres a far greater freedom to post whatever he pleases, he would much rather restrict some of his posting, use his real name, and not be known as a Nazi. That is why his name is plastered all over this site.
