So they had this exhibition basketball game a few days ago in which the rims were raised to a height of eleven feet. The extra foot changed the feasibility of certain shots and made dunking nearly impossible, and the game’s organizers wanted to see how this impacted play. As you might expect, the game was remarkably different from the usual basketball fare, and featured a lot of early-game awkwardness as the players’ old habits butted up against an uncooperative basket. In general, there was a bigger emphasis on fundamentals, a lot less action in the immediate vicinity of the basket, and fewer attempts to go for the one-man glory of a three-pointer.
This lead to the following gem: “I can’t wait to get back to a 10-foot rim. This showed me that I do rely on my athleticism a lot.”
If by “my athleticism,” you mean, “being six foot-eight”.
Granted, the sports journalists weren’t going to him for deep analysis of the game, but then again, I’ve never liked basketball.

I’ve never really understood why we take sports seriously enough to devote entire sections of newspapers and newscasts to them. I’m not complaining. I just don’t get it.
