Terry Gilliam has said that Brazil "takes place somewhere on the Los Angeles/Belfast border." And as someone who has the 3-disc Criterion edition, I completely agree with the previous comment. I have not yet seen The Fountain (the ads did not do a good job of getting me interested in it), but my mother has been on some kind of epic Target/Wal-Mart scouring quest to find a widescreen copy. I think she finally found one earlier this week.

Was it your first time seeing Brazil? It absolutely does freak you out! Great film.

If you can, I'd recommend seeking out the 3-disc Criterion DVD of Brazil. It includes some great commentaries and documentaries, as well as the studio-edited "Love Conquers All" version, which recuts Brazil to have basically the exact opposite meaning in almost every way. It's a fascinating exercise in changing context through editing.

Haven't seen The Fountain but I do want to.
