it’s finally happened

At long last, it’s finally happened. The purchase four or five years in the making has finally come to pass. I am the proud owner of a shiny new MacBook Pro. Please, hold your applause. My mind and bank account are still recovering.
The verdict, after a few hours of use, is that this thing is in every conceivable way superior to the PC. The screen is brighter, the software is better, and the power button is made of actual metal. The glow of its screen also conceals flaws in my skin and makes me a better person than you. I bought this laptop for use in my graduate work, so I assume that its prodigious computational powers will garner me a Nobel Prize in a few months’ time.
Can we talk about how fast this thing is? I never expected it to feel so fast. It took me a little while (read: ten minutes) to wrap my head around DMG packages, and then I just sat there, stunned by the sheer velocity of installation.
So is there anything I should be doing here? Downloading some critical piece of must-have software? Configuring my system just so? Guide me, internet, through this thrilling new transition.

Congrats on the purchase. I made the switch to a Macbook back in May for my video editing projects and I have concur that they are superior machines to PCs in so many ways: faster, more user-friendly, almost immune to viruses, slickers. I haven’t looked back since I opened that alluring white box.

I’ll be purchasing a MacBook come October when Leopard is out. It’ll be my first Mac. I’m quite excited - especially since I recently built a new PC and XP hasn’t been treating me very well. Let’s not even talk about Vista. Anyway, congrats on the beautiful new machine!

It’s about time. ;)

Macs are for hippies and queers. Or so I’ve been told. Glad you’re part of the club. They’re miraculous machines. My self-diagnosed Tourette’s Syndrome pretty much disappeared when I ditched the PC and got a Mac.

I can’t believe you didn’t call me, lol.
Since you AIM, get Adium. Open source chat tool that is just BOOBIES. Also, since the one thing Apple leaves out are games, pick up some Burning Monkey Solitaire. And, if you really want to give the finger to Microsoft, pick up iWork and ditch MS Office. The new Pages app is sexually attractive, with Keynote you can make presentations as slick as Steve Jobs’, and the completely new numbers does Excel’s job without as much of the confusing.
Yea yea yea, I’m Apple Faithful. But am I the only one that thinks the Nanos are a little dumb looking? And I miss the tangerine Shuffle already…

Allison, thank you for suggesting Adium. I was unaware of this program, and now I have downloaded it, as well as a Big Lebowski sound set, and the quality of my IMing experience is greatly improved.
