let summer commence
Today marked graduation day for BU’s senior class, and the student union played host to no less than four commencement ceremonies. Throw in a random fire alarm that thankfully fell precisely between two major ceremonies, and it amounts to a busy day at the office (the alarm did clear out the first ceremony remarkably quickly, however).
I think the most magical part of the commencement ceremonies is getting to see BU’s many professors in their full academic battle gear. I find something awe inspiring about the academic regalia. Here are these learned men and women, literally wearing their academic accomplishments on their sleeves, turning out to bear witness to the next generation of thinkers. The simple dignity of the robes and mortar boards really touches a chord with me, perhaps because I’ll be wearing them in exactly one year. One year. HOLY. CRAP.
