If you're going to read Ender's Game, it would be well worth it to read the first sequel, Speaker for the Dead. It is one of my favorite books, though it's been long enough since I read it that I don't remember the details very well. It had some interesting commentary on religion and finding meaning in life and death. Don't bother with the other 2 sequels, though. They weren't that great. And I can't speak to the parralel Ender's Shadow series yet, as I've only read the first book, and it was just okay.
