make your computer pretty
Joy of joys, new versions of the Charamel themes have been released for Firefox and Thunderbird. Neutral while at the same time imbued with character, these themes combine the best of graphical clarity and beauty. You could argue that the Firefox theme isn’t to your taste, but its Thunderbird counterpart is so flawless that it feels as though it was meant to be the default for the program. I have never experienced such pleasure just by checking my e-mail.
I’ve also gone back to using the crisp and shiny Opus Luna theme for Windows XP. This is what the default Windows XP themes should have looked like in my opinion. To use this theme you’ll have to…umm…modify your uxtheme.dll file. Technically speaking, that kind of behavior is discouraged by Microsoft. Far be it from me to lead you down the Path of Evil, but you might be able to find a one-click modification program in this general direction.
As I’ve said on many occassions, I code this site by hand, which means a lot of time staring at a screenful of the Courier monospace font. Monospace fonts are an ugly necessity in any programming environment, but certainly not easy on the eyes. After much searching my new default font is Anonymous, a monospace font that looks great even with font smoothing enabled.
God bless aesthetics.
