missing the mark

Posting has decreased of late, if you hadn’t noticed. My workload is heavier this semester, but that can’t be the sole reason. I’m not sure what the other reasons might be. On the one hand, there’s the eternal problem of my name. It’s all over the site, and having accomplished its mission, it now does nothing but hamper me. There’s lots of things I’d like to write, but can’t, courtesy of a deliberate lack of anonymity that has outlived its original purpose. Not that anonymity really exists on the internet, of course, but sometimes it’s fun to pretend. Again, that can’t be the reason. I did plenty of writing, a small fraction of it quite good, over the last year, name or no name.

I think I missed the mark on the latest redesign of the site. Sure, it met all my goals, but it isn’t something that I really enjoy looking at. Isn’t that one of the goals of design? To engender an enjoyable experience? Isn’t that why people hire designers, to meet your goals and make it something you’d want to look at? If so, I must admit failure on this account. Back to the drawing board? Perhaps, if I find the time. My theory is predicated on the assumption that bad design can actually create writer’s block.  I believe it. Do you?
So once again I find myself unsure of where to take the site. But it’s bought and paid for, so I might as well take it somewhere, right?
