name your favorite cheese

It’s Friday, people.  I’ve got a couple of posts simmering on the back burner, but nothing ready for a public debut.  Burners.  Stoves.  Kitchens.  Refrigerators.  Crispers.  Cheese.  Kitchen metaphors always make me think of cheese.  God, but I love cheese.  I’m particularly a fan of smoked Gouda, which, I swear to you, I could buy a ball of and eat like an apple.

I can’t believe I’m asking this, but what is your favorite cheese?  The discussion of fermented dairy products is, to my mind, the perfect opportunity to de-lurk and leave a little comment if you feel so inclined.  Everyone, after all, has a favorite cheese.

This, by the way, is what happens when there’s nothing good in the news and you don’t want to write about TV for a fourth time this week.  So, suffer with me, people.  Name your cheese.

    For an all-purpose cheese with good flavor, I tend toward colby jack. For more special occasions (read: when I’m feeling profligate) I might pick up some gouda or muenster.

    But nothing, simply nothing, beats the contrast of taste and texture that one gets with sharp cheddar and a chilled, almost-ripe Fuji apple.

    Being lactose intolerant I, of course, love all cheeses. I would have to say my favourite is Pepper Jack. Anna yells from the background, “Mozarella!!!!!!!!!!!!” She’s adorable.

    Different cheeses in different contexts. If I’m just snacking on straight cheese, gouda and mozzeralla win. But those are not sandwich cheeses. When it comes to sandwich cheeses, it depends on the sandwich.

    I always enjoy a good extra sharp cheddar myself, although I have recently started getting into the niceties of a smoked gouda as well.
