new year, new look

I can scratch resolution five off my list. Clear your cache and hit your reload button if the site looks at all strange to you. Welcome to the latest iteration of my humble website.

The redesign is ever so vaguely inspired by this printing of The Prophet. From there, it spiraled out of control, introducing some firsts for the site: a real attempt at a color scheme, some texture, and a wider layout that makes room for (horrors) a second column. The second column finally gives me a way to serve up interesting links without wasting an entire post, and on individual post pages transforms into the “possibly related” column. The “possibly related” list is now powered by the excellent Similar Posts plugin, which I’ve found to be faster and more accurate than the tool I used previously (the now defunct Related Posts).

The site’s archives are still powered by the highly useful Extended Live Archives (please let me know if this isn’t working). I only mention it because ELA is incompatible with the latest version of Wordpress. I activated, deactivated, reactivated, deleted, and uploaded for over an hour before I came upon a patch that fixes the incompatibility. This is why open source is a good thing.

I’ve gone back to an excerpt-only feed, but just for a little while. Please kick the tires, check out some of those freshly baked links, and leave harsh criticisms in the comments. There’s also a trail of Designs that Were Not, which I may post in the near future.
