sacks in a nutshell

I just finished reading Oliver Sacks’s An Anthropologist on Mars.  There will be no review, because applauding Sacks’s writing is like asserting how important it is that you continue to breathe in and out.

I will, however, steal one of the quotes that opens Anthropologist:

“The universe is not only queerer than we imagine, but queerer than we can imagine.” –J. B. S. Haldane

Certainly good words to live by, and a good description of what makes Sacks’s writing so excellent.  He never fails to capture the intricacy, wonder, and fundamental humanity of the cases he describes.
