same-sex citations

The graphic that accompanies this entry was on CNN’s main homepage for a few hours today. Most opponents of gay marriage quote the contents of Leviticus 18:22, and no matter where you sit on the debate, it’s hard to argue with the gist of that passage.
Matt 19:4-6, though, isn’t one I’d seen before, and it’s easy to see why. I’m no Biblical scholar, but the passage in question has nothing to do with marriage per se. Matt 19:6 is the passage that outlaws divorce. Let’s skip over the obvious hypocrisy of groups of people decrying homosexuality as against God’s will while conveniently taking for granted their right to divorce. The passage in question really says nothing about same sex relations. In fact, a crafty reading would allow a gay couple to be together in the eyes of God as long as they lived with their parents.
If you’re going to protest in favor of a nakedly dishonest political stunt, at least double check your sources.
