stalking the wild mind: volume 2

EDIT, four years later:  If you’re looking for more info on Stalking the Wild mind, please go here.

I don’t how it slipped my mind, but I’ve gotten consent to participate in a directed study with the one and only Professor Barrand.  Now, in my college (College of Arts and Sciences), there’s a great deal of red tape involved in applying for directed study. You and your professor MUST HAVE A PLAN, or a “Final Solution”, if you get my drift.

Luckily, Professor Barrand teaches primarily through BU’s University Professors school, which takes a much more relaxed attitude toward such matters. Getting the directed study added to my course schedule consisted of the following: “Hi, I’m doing a directed study with Professor Barrand next semester and I need to register for it.” There was a kindly women at the counter who reminded me of the warm-hearted, sage aunt I never had. She paused briefly before responding, “And you have his consent for this?” “Yes,” I said. “Alright then. I’ll register you for it.”

There was no approval committee, no form to fill out, not even a simple blood test to verify my identity. Amazing. Professor Barrand also likes to give his directed study students as much freedom to explore different topics as they desire, so I am, needless to say, very excited.

Be the first to comment. I dare you.
