the grammar lesson for 10/20/09
I took the above photo while waiting for the T this morning. To review:
APART: adverb. Of two or more people or things; separated by a distance; at a specified distance from each other in time or space.
A PART OF: phrase. Included within.
Whoever designed that flier should be given a prize for accidentally communicating, with a single omission of the space bar, the exact opposite of the flier’s intention. I’d call it an “Epic Spacing Fail,” if I were the sort of person who went in for that kind of thing.
This is still not quite as spectacular a failure of communication as this poster for 300, which pulls perhaps the most ill-suited quote from the film to use in an advertisement. I am thrilled that I finally found an excuse to link to that.
